The visit is included in every price. Daytime or evening, either is fine. I bring the paperwork and you don’t need to prepare anything, though it helps to have a rough idea of what you own.

what if your child gets divorced?

Most parents want to leave what they have to their children, equally and simply. That’s usually the right thing. But a straight gift means it’s theirs to keep or lose.

If your son or daughter later divorces, what they inherited from you can be counted as part of what’s split. If they get into debt, it can go to creditors. If they’re vulnerable, or not great with money, it might not last long. And if they die before their partner, it can pass to that partner rather than to your grandchildren.

None of this is about thinking badly of your children. It’s about the things none of us can predict.

A protective trust in your will can help. Instead of leaving money outright, you leave it to trustees for your child’s benefit. The trustees can still give it to them when they need it. But because it’s held in trust, it’s much harder for it to leak away through divorce or debt. The trusts page explains how this works.
