That’s a fair worry, and it’s often why people put off making a will. They’ve heard stories about big bills, or they’ve been quoted one price and then charged another.

• mirror wills for a couple are £249
• a lasting power of attorney is £125 per document
• an Executor Pack is £249
• storing your will with HMCTS is £249, one-off

If you need something more involved, like a trust, I’ll tell you what it costs before I do anything. You can think about it and say no. I’m not the cheapest you’ll find, and I’m not the dearest. What I will do is get it right and explain it clearly.

And if I think you don’t need something, I’ll say so. Plenty of people only need a straightforward will, and that’s all I’ll suggest.
